Canadian Flax Seed & Dakota Golden Flax Seed Differences
While the benefits of flax seed are well known, it can be difficult to decide which one to take. There is regular flax seed known as Canadian flax seed and the golden flax seed that originated in Dakota. Most of the information you find on the internet, especially from those sites selling flax seed, will tell you that Canadian flax seed is the best choice. However, don t fall for such advertising and sales promoting tactics as they offer the same nutritional value. The only exception is that golden flax seed was discovered during research at the North Dakota State University.
If you take a look at the information on the website for the Flax Council of Canada, they will tell you that recent studies indicate that the brown and the golden seeds contain the same oil content. This information is based on studies by the Canadian Grain commission. The results show golden seed contains 43% or 44% oil while the brown seed contains 44%. The only difference that was identified is the Dakota Gold contains only 51% of the Omega 3 fatty acid, Alpha-Linolenic while the brown seed samples contained 59%.
